Manu is originally from the lush southern state of Brazil - Rio Grande do Sul. He grew up on a chicken farm in a small village, always growing all sorts of fruit and vegetables with his family. This was an early education in the importance of local food, sustainable systems, and the beauty of the natural world.
Manu has been working as a gardener and landscaper since moving to the Far South Coast six years ago. During this time, he has constructed a number of bespoke large structures to protect fruit orchards and vegetable gardens from predation by birds, rats, wallabies, wombats, and rabbits on rural properties. He has also built several smaller covered garden structures on town blocks.
Today, Manu enjoys working on landscape construction projects such as retaining walls, decks, garden sheds, pathways, and garden beds. He is also passionate about collaborating with clients to showcase the beautiful nature of the Far South Coast in their gardens, while meeting other aesthetic and accessibility needs.
The Grounding Gardening team consists of local subcontractors who help out with earthworks, material delivery, and labour, as needed. Plus, you'll meet Gigi, Manu's gorgeous Australian Shepherd/Border Collie who loves to play at the beach, keep watch over our chickens, and sleep in the sun.
